Major Guide: Africana Studies

The Africana Studies program allows for a multidisciplinary approach to understanding the experiences of African peoples.

Students who study abroad have an excellent opportunity to learn about those experiences firsthand by engaging with local communities. Below, are recommended programs for Interdisciplinary Studies majors with a concentration in Africana Studies. These programs will allow you to take a full load of courses that will fulfill your degree requirements.

Quick Look: Choose a for-credit internship at a local business or volunteer locally. All courses are complemented with CIEE co-curricular activities and excursions beyond the city. Quick Look: Participate in field work and research opportunities that will give you practical exposure to topics you’re learning at South Africa’s leading research university, the University of Cape Town (UCT). Quick Look: Study political, security & environmental issues in the Great Lakes region and learn about economic development in Rwanda, the uses and abuses of oil as a development strategy, issues of conflict, ecotourism and more.
