Tonyea’s VolsAbroad Experience: CCI Global Communication Scholars Semester in Spain

Tonyea’ Pruitt | Spring 2024

Myself and eight other students studied abroad in Valencia, Spain on the CCI Global Scholars Program Spring 24. We had two classes and an internship during the semester. It was an amazing experience. I have gained life-long friends. From random adventures to cultural activities to the insightful lectures, this experience was like none other.

There is so much I could say; however, I’ve said most of it in my videos. But I would definitely recommend this experience to other students. It is a great experience and opportunity to explore a different country and gain hands-on experience in your field. This program is a great opportunity if you are willing to be challenged. It is an opportunity for personal growth, professional development, new language skills, cultural immersion and more.

What does the Volunteer Experience mean to you and how has your experience abroad contributed to it?

The Volunteer experience to me means always challenging myself, continually building relationships, and making myself a well-rounded individual. My experience abroad has significantly contributed to this by exposing me to diverse cultures and perspectives, pushing me out of my comfort zone, and teaching me to adapt to new environments. It has allowed me to form meaningful connections with people from different backgrounds and has enhanced my personal growth and commitment to making a positive impact.

What skills or experiences have you had in your time abroad to prepare you for life beyond UT?

Going abroad allows you to experience personal growth. It challenges your adaptability and broadens your perspective by exposing you to different cultures and ways of life.

During my time abroad, I was able to hone my professional development skills, network and make connections with people from all walks of life. I learned to embrace every moment, allow myself and others the space to grow and always remain open to learning and trying something new. These skills and lessons are ones that I can take with me throughout life in my personal and professional journey.

“Global Engagement is important because it fosters a sense of interconnection with other parts of the world and helps you become a more well-rounded individual.” – Tonyea’ Pruitt
